Mr. Frank Luntz, I am here to answer your question! Global warming and climate change may seem like one and the same, and in some ways, they are! But they have many differences too. Here are some definitions:
What is global warming to you? What is climate change? Why are these different? How will it effect our earth? Why is it occuring? Watch this short clip! Scroll down for a quick conclusion to answer your questions!
- Global warming: The general increase in earth's overall temperature, a theory consisting of human interaction causing the increase of greenhouse gases.
- Climate change: The long and short term effects caused by global warming. These effects may include natural disasters and extreme weather.
- Greenhouse gases: Multiple gases released that form a "blanketing" effect. These gases include: carbon dioxide, methane, ozone and fluorocarbons.

Let's bring it to the basics: Global warming is a scientific theory that states: an increase in the atmospheric temperature through man-made products. Climate change categorizes the effects of this theory. These effects may range anywhere from a harmless larger-than-usual thunder storm to series of deadly natural disasters such as hurricanes or tornadoes. Why? Why does this happen? What causes these disastrous and deadly twists? We (us humans) produce gases such as:
A.
Carbon Dioxide: This gas is released from the burning of coal, oil, gas and other fossil fuels. Deforestation is a large contributor.
B.
Methane: This gas can be released from cows, other livestock (not just humans contribute!), agriculture (farming), the decay of organic material (in landfills), and fracking. This vapor is the cause of 14% of global warming. (carbon dioxide is the leading cause at 75% forming the "thick, blanket-like atmosphere overhead.)
C.
Nitrous Oxide: Nitrous oxide is mainly released through: livestock waste and other industrial processes. This gas accounts for over 8% of the global warming theory.
These three gases (Carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide) produce a thick cover over earth's atmosphere trapping the sun's rays. Our planet's temperature begins to increase, as over time sunlight heats and envelopes the environment. This is global warming.
